SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Despite having the early advantage by earning the doubles point, the Wofford men’s tennis team fell to College of Charleston by a 6-1 score Thursday afternoon at the Reeves Tennis Center.
 
Wofford falls to 1-8 overall and 0-2 in Southern Conference play, while the Cougars improve to 6-2 overall and 1-0 in league action.
 
The Terriers took the early advantage as Jackson Keith and Walker Heffron downed Crescente Lesser and Brice Allanic (8-5) at the No. 3 position, and the pairing of Tinus Van Wyk and Rob Galloway defeated Mickael Trintignac (8-6) at the No. 1 spot to claim the doubles point, giving Wofford the 1-0 advantage headed into singles play.

College of Charleston took control of the match in singles, sweeping each contest to claim the overall victory.  At the No. 4 position, Rob Galloway claimed the first set against Crescente Lesser, 7-5, yet Lesser took the remaining sets, 6-0, 6-4, for the win.  At the No. 1 position, Tinus Van Wyk took the opening set against Mickael Trintignac, 6-4, yet Trintignac took the second set, 7-5, and also claimed the third-set tiebreak, 10-8.
 
“I’ve got to give College of Charleston credit,” stated Wofford head coach Rod Ray following the match.  “After we won the doubles point as well as a couple of first sets in singles, they played terrific.  In some areas, we showed a lot of improvement and in others some weaknesses were exploited.  We didn’t lose today due to lack of effort, but we are definitely capable of playing better as a team.”
 
The Terriers return to action Saturday afternoon, hosting The Citadel at 1:00 p.m. at the Reeves Tennis Center.
