SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford men’s tennis team earned its third consecutive victory Monday afternoon, defeating Georgia Southern by a 5-2 score at the Reeves Tennis Center.

With the victory, the Terriers improve to 4-8 on the year, and 3-2 in Southern Conference play.  The Eagles fall to 1-18 overall and 0-8 in league action.

The afternoon started with doubles play, where the Terriers took two of the three matches to claim the point.  At the No. 2 position, Tom Wood and Stuart Roberson defeated Kyle Hoffman and Daniel Rush (8-5), and the pairing of Walker Heffron and Jackson Keith defeated Albert Codina Sala/Sebastien Felt (9-8) at the No. 3 spot to clinch the doubles point for Wofford.

In singles play, the Terriers kept the momentum from doubles action, jumping to a quick 3-0 advantage.  At the No. 6 spot, Walker Heffron downed Daniel Rush (6-2, 6-2) in straight sets, followed by Rob Galloway defeating Albert Codina Sala (6-3, 6-1) at the No. 4 position.  Both Heffron and Galloway are currently on a three-match win streak.

Georgia Southern attempted to comeback, picking up a win at the No. 2 spot, yet Wofford clinched the overall match victory at the No. 3 position as Jackson Keith defeated  Kyle Hoffman (7-5, 6-3) in straight sets.  The Terriers picked up another win at the No. 1 position when Tinus Van Wyk fought back to defeat Alain Garrido (3-6, 6-2, 6-2) in three sets.

“Georgia Southern played tough and we had to play very hard to win,” said Wofford head coach Rod Ray following the match. “After a close doubles point, neither team quit.  I’m very proud of the toughness we showed today.”

The Terriers will hit the road for their next match, taking on Chattanooga.  The match is set for a 1:00 p.m. start time this Saturday afternoon in Chattanooga, Tenn.
