DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Wofford men’s tennis team picked up a 4-3 victory over Davidson Wednesday afternoon at the Covington Tennis Courts.
With the win, the Terriers improve to 5-11 overall and 4-5 in SoCon play. The Wildcats drop to 7-12 overall and 3-6 in league action.
Wofford jumped out to an early advantage, taking two of the three doubles matches to earn the doubles point. At the No. 1 position, Tinus Van Wyk and Rob Galloway defeated Calum Gee and Joe Schafter (8-6), and Walker Heffron and Jackson Keith defeated Conner Evins and Kevin Moore (8-6) at the No. 3 spot.
Davidson earned three quick victories at the onset of singles play, yet the Terriers battled back, taking the remaining three matches to clinch the overall match victory. At the No. 1 position, Tinus Van Wyk fought back after dropping the first set to defeat Joe Schafter (5-7, 6-1, 6-1). Drew Superstein earned a three-set victory over Chris Mark (7-5, 0-6, 6-4) at the No. 2 position, and Rob Galloway defeated Calum Gee (6-4, 6-7, 6-4) in three sets.
The Terriers return to action Saturday afternoon at Furman in the last match of the regular season. The match is slated for a 3:00 p.m. start time in Greenville, S.C.
