GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Wofford men’s tennis team earned four wins in singles play to take a 4-3 win at Furman Saturday afternoon at the Mickel Tennis Center.
 
With the win, the Terriers improve to 6-11 overall and 5-5 in SoCon action.  The Paladins fall to 8-14-1 overall and 5-4-1 in league play.
 
The match kicked off with doubles play, where the pairing of Walker Heffron and Jackson Keith defeated Jacob Behal and Watson George (8-2) at the No. 3 position, yet the Paladins took the remaining two matches to claim the doubles point.
 
Furman took a 2-0 advantage at the onset of doubles play as Tinus Van Wyk fell to Andrew Mellow (6-1, 6-3) at the No. 1 position.  Wofford earned the next point as Rob Galloway downed Jacob Behal (6-3, 6-1) at the No. 4 position, yet Furman’s Alex Christ earned the next win at the No. 2 spot over Drew Superstein (6-3, 7-6(6)) to give the Paladins a 3-1 lead.
 
The Terriers stormed back, as Walker Heffron defeated Robbie Aru (6-4, 7-5) at the No. 5 position, and Jackson Keith defeated Joel Cook (6-1, 1-, 7-6(2)) at the No. 3 position to tie the match at 3-3.
 
The match at the No. 6 position between Tom Wood and Tyler Droll went into a third set, with Wood prevailing in a tiebreaker to decide the third set (6-4, 5-7, 7-6(6)) to give Wofford the overall match win.
 
The Terriers will next be in action Thursday afternoon as they take part in the 2012 Southern Conference Men’s Tennis Championships in Charleston, S.C.
