Men’s Tennis Falls to Georgia Southern, 4-2, In First Round of SoCon Tournament

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Wofford College men’s tennis team’s season came to an end Thursday afternoon at the Terriers dropped a 4-2 decision to Georgia Southern in the opening round of the 2012 Southern Conference Men’s Tennis Championships.
 
The Terriers finish the season at 6-12 overall while the Eagles improve to 3-19 on the year.
 
The match, which was delayed several times due to rain, began with doubles play, where the team of Jackson Keith and Walker Heffron defeated Daniel Rush and Derrick Davison (8-5) at the No. 3 position, and Stuart Robertson and Tom Wood paired to defeat Kyle Hoffman and Matthijs Verdam (8-6) at the No. 2 spot to give the Terriers the doubles point.
 
In singles play, Drew Superstein defeated Kyle Hoffman (6-1, 6-2) in straight sets at the No. 3 position, yet the Eagles took the next four decisions to clinch the overall victory.  The match at the No. 1position between Tinus Van Wyk and Alain Garrido was not completed.

The 2012 Southern Conference Men’s Tennis Championship will continue throughout the weekend, with the championship match taking place Sunday afternoon in Charleston, S.C.
