SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford men's tennis team defeated North Greenville University, 6-1, for their second straight win Wednesday afternoon at the John E. Reeves Tennis Center.
The Terriers improve to 5-4 overall with the win and the Crusaders fall to 1-4 with the loss.
Wofford began the match sweeping doubles to take a 1-0 lead. Doubles duo of freshman Trevor Gotkowski and sophomore David Sklar defeated Sjors van Eck and Marcelo Yshikawa, 8-5, at the No. 3 position to claim the doubles point for the Terriers.
Freshman No. 2 player Haris Poric earned Wofford its first point in singles play defeating Juan Vargas, 6-0, 6-0, making the score 2-0. Senior Rob Galloway clinched the match at the top court defeating Jose Castillo, 6-2, 7-5, pushing Wofford to a 4-0 lead.
In addition to Poric and Galloway, freshman Jamey Bower made his first career start at the No. 6 position. He defeated Andres Camacho, 6-3, 6-2, getting his first career singles victory.
Wofford is back in action on Thursday, February 27, when they travel to Gardner-Webb University to take on the Runnin' Bulldogs at 2:30 p.m. The Terriers will return home on Sunday, March 2, when they host Georgia Southern at the John E. Reeves Tennis Center for their Southern Conference opener at 1 p.m.
