SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Junior Rob Galloway topped off the Terrier's comeback winning the top singles match as the Wofford men's tennis team rallied to defeat Coastal Carolina University, 5-2, on Friday afternoon at the John E. Reeves Tennis Center.
With the victory, the Terriers improve to 4-4 overall and the Chanticleers fall to 3-2 overall with the loss.
Coastal Carolina swept doubles play earning the first point and taking an early 1-0 lead. The Chanticleers would then extend their lead, 2-0, claiming the first singles point at the No. 3 spot.
The Terriers would then begin their furious comeback in singles play. It started with freshman No. 5 singles player Trevor Gotkowski defeating Jabor Al-Mutawa, 6-4, 6-2, to cut Coastal's lead to 2-1. Gotkowski's win was then followed up by freshman Haris Poric who tied up the match at 2-2 with a victory at the No. 2 position defeating Garik Yedigarian, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.
Junior Walker Heffron would then give Wofford its first lead of the match 3-2, defeating Leo Christofides, 3-6, 6-5 (11-9), 6-1, at the No. 4 singles spot. Galloway would then clinch the win at the top court for the Terriers as he defeated Philipp Tsangaridis, 4-6, 6-5 (9-7), 6-4.
Sophomore Parks Thompson earned Wofford's fifth and final point beating Hunter Whalen 6-5 (10-8), 5-6 (6-8), 6-4, as the No. 6 singles player.
The Wofford men's tennis team will return to the courts on Wednesday, February 12, when they travel to UNC Charlotte to play the 49ers at 2:30 p.m. The Terrier's next home match will be on Wednesday, February 19, as they host North Greenville University at the John E. Reeves Tennis Center at 2:30 p.m.
