Box Score (.pdf)BOONE, N.C. – The Terriers fought hard in all of the matches sending most to set tiebreaks, but Oliver Casey clinched the match at the No. 2 singles position as the Wofford men's tennis team fell to the Mountaineers of Appalachian State, 6-1 on Tuesday afternoon at the Appalachian Tennis Courts.
With the loss, the Terriers fall to 8-11 overall and 3-5 in the Southern Conference while the Mountaineers improve to 9-11 overall and 6-2 in conference play with the victory.
In doubles play, Appalachian won the matches at the No. 1 and No. 3, clinching the point on the third court. For Wofford, No. 2 doubles duo of Walker Heffron and Parks Thompson won the Terriers' only doubles match 8-7 (7-4).
Jan-Willem Kleynhans got things started in singles as he gave the Mountaineers a 2-0 advantage winning on the bottom court, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4). After Appalachian State won on the top court to take a 3-0 lead, Casey then clinched the match on the second court as he defeated Haris Poric of Wofford, 6-4, 7-5.
Appalachian State would then go on to win the No. 4 and No. 5 singles matches to tally their score 6-0.
Heffron earned Wofford's only point of the match. He defeated Zach Bost in a hard fought match on the third court by a score of 6-1, 6-7, 7-6 (7-3).
The Terriers return to action on Friday when they close out the regular season on the road to face the Furman Paladins at 3 p.m.
