GREENVILLE, S.C. – Following an obscure delay, the Wofford College women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to the Furman Paladins on Friday at the Mickle Center.
The match, which began on Thursday, kicked off with Furman taking the doubles point, as all three sets went to 8-7 tiebreakers. Taylor Carlson and Samantha Russell had the lone doubles win, taking the No. 3 spot.
Both teams warmed up for singles, but showers followed by a thunderstorm swamped the courts and pushed the match back a day. Due to pending inclement weather, Friday's action was moved to Greenville.
In singles, Wofford earned wins at the No. 5 and No. 6 hole. Junior Mareli Sanchez took the win at No. 5 in three sets, 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (7), while freshman Lauren Reid took a 6-4, 6-2 victory at No. 6 singles.
Wofford is set to host Western Carolina on Saturday, with first serve set for 2 p.m. The match will serve as both ITA camp day and senior day, as senior Audrey Coventry will be honored in a pregame ceremony at Reeves Tennis Center.
