CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Wofford College men's tennis team battled the Southern Conference defending-champion East Tennessee State Buccaneers in the SoCon Tournament semifinals Saturday morning, with the Bucs prevailing 4-0 at the Champions Club.

The Terriers (10-13, 3-4 SoCon) appeared in the semifinals for their second straight season and third time in program history. Wofford dropped two of three doubles matches to the Bucs (16-5, 7-0 SoCon) to start the match, and ETSU proceeded to win the first three singles matches as well to claim the overall victory. The match was played in clinch-style format, leaving three singles matches and one doubles match unfinished.

ETSU garnered the first doubles victory at the three doubles position. Wofford junior

Kyle Barr fell to Sebastian Yllera and Ismael Merino of ETSU 6-2. Wofford juniors
Haris Poric and
Andrew Graham also fell 6-2 at the two spot to ETSU's Diego Nunez and Robert Herrera.

Seniors
David Sklar and
Parks Thompson faced ETSU's David Biosca and Rogerio Ribeiro at the one doubles position. The ETSU duo was ahead 5-2 when the Bucs clinched the overall doubles point.

In singles, Barr at the four position suffered a setback for Wofford with a 6-1, 6-2 defeat from ETSU's Herrera, giving ETSU a 2-0 advantage. Graham also fell 6-1, 6-2 at the six spot to Merino of ETSU.

Thompson at the two position faced Rogerio Ribeiro, losing 6-2, 6-2 in straight sets. The win clinched the overall match victory for the Bucs.

Three singles matches remained unfinished at the stop of play. Sophomore
Parks Schoen at the five position was able to force a third set against Yllera after losing the first set 3-6 by scoring a 6-1 victory in his second set. Schoen had taken a 1-0 lead in the third set when play was suspended.

Poric and Sklar rounded out the singles lineup for Wofford at the number one and number three positions. Both dropped their first set 6-2 and were trailing in their second sets, with Poric down against Biosca 5-3 and Sklar trailing Nunez 4-3 when play was stopped.

Wofford finishes the 2016 season with a 10-13 record, their seventh season in their Division I era with a double-digit win total. The Terriers were a perfect 8-0 at home for only the second time in program history.

ETSU advances to the championship match Sunday at 1 p.m. and will face the winner of the Furman-Samford match at the Champions Club in Chattanooga.
