ST. SIMONS, Ga. – Former Wofford golfer and recent graduate, Andrew Novak, makes his PGA tour debut today at the RSM Classic. The tournament, held at the Seaside and Plantation courses of the Sea Island Golf Club, runs from Nov. 16-19.
Â
It is the first time ever that two Wofford men's golfers have played in a PGA tour event, as Novak joins current professional and former Terrier William McGirt.
Â
Novak had to win a playoff hole to clinch final of four spots available at Monday qualifying. Novak and the two other golfers, Curtis Thompson and Sebastian Vasquez, all made par on the first hole of the playoff. On the second playoff hole, No. 8, Novak sunk a birdie putt on the par three hole to claim the final spot. It was his first attempt at qualifying for a PGA tour event, though he has had recent success on other tours. The native of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., has conditional status on the web.com tour after advancing through the second stage of qualifying school.
Â
Novak left Wofford as one of the program's most decorated golfers. The 2017 Southern Conference Player of the Year, Wofford's first, qualified for two NCAA regionals and finished top 25 in each. He is the only Wofford golfer to qualify for regionals twice. Novak holds the program record for career wins (4), the record for tournament score in relation to par (-13), and owns the second lowest round in school history (65).
Â
Novak plays the Seaside course on Thursday and is in a pairing with Austin Cook and Abraham Ancer. The group tees off of No. 10 at 11:30 a.m.Â
