ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The Wofford College men's and women's cross country teams competed on Saturday morning at the Asheville Cross Country Invitational. The women won their second consecutive meet, led by
Hannah Steelman with an individual title. The men were sixth overall.
The men's four mile competition began the morning and sophomore
Jack Zemp was the top finisher for the Terriers with a time of 21:05.16 for eighth place.
Ethan Epstein finished in 21:31.21, followed by
Cisco Ferre at 21:31.60.
Cristian Widenhouse crossed the line in 21:53.74 and
Walker Gibbs was at 22:09.22. Also running for the Terriers were
Ben Boatwright,
Joe Harbacevich,
Ben Hensley, William Stutts and
Dane Szalwinski.
The women's two mile race followed and freshman
Hannah Steelman was first overall in 10:51.21 to win her second straight meet.
Taryn Schoen was sixth overall at 11:54.53, followed by
Mary Stewart Wilson at 11:56.87.
Anya Bunao (12:03.68) and
Shannon McAndrew (12:20.39) rounded out the top five for the Terriers. Also competing were
Sommer McKenzie,
Rebeka Fadgyas,
Whitley Elsass,
Jamie Barnett,
Alexandra Christopoulos,
Breck Peterson and
Anastasia Burroughs.
The Wofford women were first overall with 45 points. Western Carolina was second (48), followed by Milligan, UNC Asheville, Lenoir-Rhyne, Carson-Newman, Gardner-Webb, Auburn Montgomery, Montreat, Presbyterian and Warren Wilson. The Terriers were sixth on the men's side with 137 points. UNC Asheville was first (54), followed by Western Carolina, Lenoir-Rhyne, Milligan, Montreat, Wofford, Carson-Newman, Auburn Montgomery, Gardner-Webb and Presbyterian.
Both the men's and women's teams will be back in action on Saturday, September 30 with the teams splitting squads to compete at the Will Wilson Invitational in Charleston and the Upstate Invitational in Spartanburg.
