CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Wofford College men's and women's cross country teams competed on Friday afternoon at the Royals Cross Country Challenge hosted by Queens University at McApline Park.
Hannah Steelman won the women's race and the Wofford women were sixth overall, with the men finishing 23
rd overall.

Steelman finished first overall in the women's 5K race with a time of 16:48.3. It marked the second straight year that she has won the race in Charlotte.
Taryn Schoen (18:21.7) was next to cross the finish line for the Terriers in 32
nd place.

Mary Stewart Wilson (19:02.4),
Annie Mayfield (19:04.5),
Anna Lyles (20:45.6),
Whitley Elsass (20:52.7) and
Anastasia Burroughs (24:19.1) also ran for Wofford.

Overall Lee University won on the women's side, with Furman second, Malone third, Davidson fourth, Cedarville fifth and Wofford sixth. There were a total of 63 teams competing in the women's race, including South Carolina, Elon, Charlotte, Mercer, UNC Wilmington, Presbyterian and Gardner-Webb.

The men's 8K competition followed and was won by Joshua Chepkesir from UNC Pembroke.
Josh Hendry was the top finisher for the Terriers at 38
th overall in a time of 25:02.00, which marked the fastest 8K men's time in school history. He broke the record that was set by
Cisco Ferre (25:02.06) in 2016. He was followed by

Ford McCoy (26:19.9),
Palmer Haigler (26:59.2),
Demir Degirmenci (27:26.7),
Beck Classey (27:41.2),
Walker Gibbs (27:56.1),
Collin Bertram (28:29.6),

Ryan O'Malley (28:42.1), and
Carter Cress (34:08.3).

Lee University also won the men's race, with Mount Olive, Queens, Charleston, Malone and Furman rounding out the top six. Wofford was 23
rd out of a total of 57 teams on the men's side, including Radford, UNC Wilmington, Elon, Charlotte, Mercer, Presbyterian and Gardner-Webb.

Both the men's and women's teams will be off until the Southern Conference Championship on November 2 in Johnson City, Tennessee.
