TERRE HAUTE, Indiana – Wofford junior
Hannah Steelman competed at the 2019 NCAA Cross Country Championships on Saturday morning at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course. In the 6K race at Indiana State University, Steelman finished 23
rd overall in a time of 20:32.6 to earn All-America status.
"It was a great race for Hannah," said head coach
Johnny Bomar. "She fought back in the cold and rain and to finish in the top 25 is an impressive accomplishment. It was a great season and we are really proud of her."
Steelman is the Wofford cross country runner to ever qualify for the NCAA Championships, accomplishing that in 2018 and 2019. Last season she was 76
th overall at 20:56.3. She has also competed in the 2019 NCAA Indoor Championships and the 2018 and 2019 NCAA Outdoor Championships. Steelman has been named All-America first team multiple times, including 3,000-meter Indoor (2019), 5,000-meter Outdoor (2019), 3,000-meter steeplechase (2019). She added second team All-America honors in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (2018).
Weini Kelati of New Mexico finished first in 19:47.5, with Arkansas taking the women's team title. BYU was second, followed by Stanford, New Mexico and N.C. State.
Thirty-one teams were selected to participate in each championship. The top two, seven-person teams automatically qualified from each of the nine regions, for a total of 18 teams. Thirteen additional teams were selected at-large.
Thirty-eight individuals were selected to participate in each championship through an automatic qualifier and at-large selection process. All individual qualifiers finished in the top 25 in their regions.
