Box Score
Spartanburg, S.C.- It was a tough five-minute stretch in the second half that lost the Wofford women's soccer team a 2-0 match to Davidson on Sunday, August 27.
The team came out of the gate firing, tallying two shots on goal in the opening 12 minutes of the game, however neither sophomores
Saachi Bureau nor
Ellie Gower found the back of the net. The Terrier defense though was just as strong. Senior goalkeeper
Caroline Doss saved both shots she saw come her way, giving her 141 saves in her career, moving Doss up to eighth on the all—time saves list in Wofford history.
Senior
Haley McCaffrey provided the last potential scoring opportunity in the 25th minute but the Davidson keeper made the save and the match went to halftime tied 0-0.
Coming out of the break, both teams pelted the respective opposing goalkeeper with a flurry of shots. Sophomore
Ansley Elizalde and McCaffrey both put shots on target but neither out of the goalkeeper's reach.
Davidson put two shots out of harm's way before netting the first goal of the game in the 57th minute courtesy of Aleia Gisolfi-McCready, the team's leading goal scorer coming into the match. Nearly five minutes later at the 61:55 mark Davidson would gain their second goal off a corner kick that deflected off Wofford's
Haley McCaffrey and padded the Wildcat lead.
Wofford was only able to get off two shots, only one of which on target, in the final 29 minutes and the final whistle blew in Davidson's favor, 2-0.
The Terriers are off until Thursday, August 31, when they will travel to Asheville to face the UNC Asheville Bulldogs at 6 PM before starting a four match home stand to begin September and round out non-conference play.
