SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford's
Breda Brennan has been named the Southern Conference women's tennis player of the week for all matches played from Jan. 23-29, the conference announced on Tuesday. The award is selected by the league office.
Brennan went 3-1 this week, picking up two singles wins in at the No. 1 position and a No. 3 doubles win in the Terriers' setbacks at Coastal Carolina and Charleston Southern as Wofford dropped both matches 5-2.
In her match against Coastal Carolina's Nicole Abel, Brennan won in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3. For doubles, she paired with Chloe Elliot at the No. 3 position, suffering a 6-1 loss.
The next day, the Limerick, Ireland, native won the No. 1 singles match again, 7-5, 4-6, 6-4, this time against Charleston Southern's Jessica Brown. In doubles, she paired with
Catherine Blouin and the pair won, 6-4, against Jessica Brown and Marina Skegro.
This is the first SoCon Player of the Week award for Brennan and it is the first for the Terriers since Janna Vroman (March 26, 2019).
Wofford (0-2) remains on the road with matches at Bethune-Cookman on Thursday and Stetson on Friday. The first home match will be Saturday, February 10 against Emmanuel.
