Baseball Hosts FDU in Three-Game Series This Weekend

Wofford remains home to host a three-game set against FDU after falling in midweek play 4-2 to Kennesaw State Wednesday evening. The Knights enter the weekend at 1-3 after winning one-of-four at San Francisco with no midweek contest. This series marks the first-ever meeting between the two programs. Friday's game features a first pitch of 5:30 p.m. with Saturday and Sunday starting at 2:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m., respectively. Wofford was the preseason third-place pick in the Southern Conference, and FDU was picked to finish fourth in the 12-team Northeast Conference.

QUICK HITS
• Wofford was picked to finish third in the SoCon preseason balloting. Zac Cowan, Brice Martinez and Jack Renwick were all named to the Preseason All-SoCon Team.
• The 2024 campaign is the first under the leadership of head coach J.J. Edwards, who earned his first win against Towson.
• The Terriers scored 43 runs between three games on opening weekend, the 10th most in the nation after the first weekend.
• Wofford's 15 stolen bases are currently sixth most in the nation.
•With seven sacrifice bunts, the Terriers are second nationally to only Western Kentucky's eight.
• 2023 Wofford graduate and SoCon Player of the Year Ryan Galanie was drafted by the Chicago White Sox in the 13th round of the 2023 MLB Draft with the 389th overall pick. He was the 18th draft pick in program history.
• Jack Renwick was the best bunter in the nation, topping Division I in 2023 with 28 sacrifices laid down to pace Wofford's national-best 86 sac-bunts. Renwick is already Wofford's career leader in bunts and set the single-season mark for both Wofford and the SoCon.
• Ryan Galanie was named SoCon Player of the Year as a consensus selection, the third Terrier in a row to claim the honor.
• With 153 steals last season, Wofford has stolen 100 or more bases in 10-straight full seasons dating back to 2013, the longest active streak in Division I.

HOME SWEET HOME
There is no place like home for the Wofford Terriers, as they have been dominant in the friendly confines of Russell C. King Field for over a decade. The Terriers have posted at least a .500 home record for now 11-straight seasons. Wofford was 15-18 at home in 2012, but since going 16-16 at home in 2013, the Terriers have not since dropped below the .500 mark in a season, and only two seasons saw a record of exactly .500 (2013 and 14-14 in 2017). Wofford was 21-6 at home in 2021 and finished 24-4-1 at home in 2022. Last season, the Terriers were 19-10 in Spartanburg. In 2024, Wofford is 3-1 at home. Overall, Wofford is 404-109-1 at home during that 11-year span. The Terriers have not quite had the same success away from home in that span, only posting marks above .500 in four consecutive seasons dating back to 2019, which was the last season Wofford was at least .500 at neutral sites as well (3-3) until this past campaign with a 5-2 record. Over that 11-year stretch from 2013-23, the Terriers are just 109-120 on the road and 20-25 at neutral sites.

THE BRICE IS RIGHT
Fifth-year second baseman Brice Martinez was an immediate controbutor when he arrived on campus for the 2022 season, and last season saw his game elevate even further. After playing two seasons of JuCo ball, Martinez joined the Terriers in 2022 and quickly won the second base job, hitting .331 with 52 hits, 41 RBI and 11 steals. Last season, Martinez upped his game to hit .352 with 75 base knocks and 45 runs driven home alongside 16 swipes. That batting average ranked 10th in the SoCon last season. Martinez looks to feature yet again as a key contributor in 2024, and the league's coaches seem to agree, voting Martinez to the Preseason All-SoCon Team. With eight hits and a .500 average after the first week of play, Martinez is picking up where he left off last year.

JUCO KINGS
Multiple junior college transfers have joined the Terrier roster this season and made immediate impacts during the first week of action. Adam Haber has soldified himself as the team's starting lef fielder and currently boasts a 385 batting average after the opening week of action. Haber comes to Spartanburg from Chattanooga State Community College and opened his Terrier career with five hits and three steals with five RBI during the first week. On the bump, Braden Hofmeyer started game three and delivered a solid outing with only a single run surrendered in 4.0 innings of work. The Chaffey College product tallied three punchouts and owns a 2.25 ERA. Lefty Dylan Rhadans was tabbed as the Opening Day starter and added another start in the team's first midweek match-up. With 5.2 innings under his belt, the southpaw owns eight punchouts to just one walk issued and a 6.35 ERA. Rhadans comes to Wofford from Wallace State Community College - Hanceville.

CAM CAN
Terrier freshman right-hander Camden Wicker has been stout out of the bullpen to open his young career. He made his collegiate debut against Towson in game three and earned his first win with 2.0 innings of scoreless work out of the bullpen. He allowed only one hit with three strikeouts. Three days later, he turned in an even better performance with 5.0 innings of relief work in midweek play against Kennesaw State. He again allowed no runs with three hits and four punchouts. In all, Wicker boasts a clean 0.00 ERA with seven strikeouts and four hits with no walks in 7.0 total innings of work. He is holding batters to a low .167 average. The youngster touts a 0.57 WHIP and is one of only four SoCon pitchers to own a 0.00 walks per nine clip.

TOP DOGS
So far in 2024, Wofford's batting average of .346 is 22nd nationally, and the Terriers are 10th with a .993 fielding percentage. Wofford's 11.2 runs per game check in at 21st, and of course the Terriers are top six in both steals and bunts.

ON DECK
The Terriers hit the road for the first time in 2024 with a midweek tilt at Charlotte. First pitch against the 49ers is set for 4:00 p.m. Wofford then returns home to host Fordham in a three-game series over the weekend.
