After making its first road trip of the season, a 3-2 loss at Charlotte, Wofford returns home this weekend to host a three-game series against Fordham. The Terriers are 6-2 after a three-game weekend sweep at home over FDU and their road defeat at Charlotte. The Rams are 2-5 after dropping two-of-three in Deland, Florida, before defeating Saint Peter's in a home midweek tilt. The Terriers and Rams have met eight times prior with the series even at 4-4. The squads last met in 2018, at 2-1 Fordham win in Spartanburg. The opener was originally scheduled for Friday evening but was postponed due to inclement weather, so the series begins with a doubleheader on Saturday.

WEATHERING THE STORM

GOING ON THE OFFENSIVE
The Wofford offense has been almost unstoppable so far in 2024, totaling 88 runs through the first eight games of the season, 18th most in the nation. At an average of 11.0 per game, the Terriers are 13th nationally in scoring. This is aided by the country's 10th-best batting average (.362), seventh-best on-base percentage (.482) and 20th-most hits (98). Wofford has scored double-digit runs in every game but two so far this season and outscored its opponents 88-42. This might be the most potent start to a season offensively by the Terriers ever, as their 86 runs through seven games are the most through seven games since posting 89 in the first seven contests of the 1983 campaign, when Wofford was still NAIA. This is the first and only time in program history that Wofford has tallied double-digit runs in six of its first seven games of a season. It has been a balanced attack, as four Terriers are batting over .400 with four more adding averages over .300.
Marshall Toole (.469),
Andrew Mannelly (.444),
Dixon Black (.414) and
Gunnar Johnson (.400) are all over .400 with
Jack Renwick (.379),
Brice Martinez (.355),
David Wiley (.333) and
Tyler Hare (.308) all checking in over .300.

THE SHARPEST TOOLE
Junior outfielder
Marshall Toole has been arguably the top Terrier overall so far this season. He is hitting .469 with a .564 on-base percentage and a .656 slugging mark. Toole owns 15 hits, two of which are doubles with a pair of triples. He has scored 14 runs while driving home eight. He boasts seven walks to just five strikeouts, which is perhaps the biggest step-up in his game from years prior. Each of his first two seasons, Toole had more strikeouts at the plate than walks, including twice as many last season (33 walks to 66 strikeouts), but this season Toole has kept his K numbers down. Ever dangerous on the bases, the speedster has swiped a national-best 11 bags so far this year, including four against FDU on February 25 to tie for second most in a game in program history while aiding in a new program record 13 steals as a team. Toole's batting clip is second best in the SoCon, as are his hits and on-base mark.
Â
THE MAN(NELLY)
Terrier sophomore outfielder
Andrew Mannelly appears to be avoiding the dreaded sophomore slump in 2024 as he has taken a massive leap from year one to year two. Mannelly has started all eight games this season, most at DH with three in the outfield, and he is second on the team with a .444 batting average. Mannelly's slash line only gets better as it continues, as the lefty slugger owns an on-base mark of .543 and a slugging clip of .667. A quarter of his 12 base knocks have gone for extra bases, including three doubles and a homer. Patient as well, he has drawn seven walks.

TOP DOGS
Wofford ranks among the conference and national leaders in many statistical categories. The Terriers lead the SoCon in batting average (.362), hits (98), on-base percentage (.482), runs (88), sacrifice bunts (14), scoring (11.0), stolen bases (38), stolen bases per game (4.75), triples (four) and walks allowed per nine innings (3.55). Wofford is second in walks (55), ERA (4.94), K/BB ratio (2.68) and strikeouts per nine innings (9.5). Wofford's stolen bases are first nationally, and the bunts are second. Owning one of the best offenses in the nation, the Terriers rank 10th in the country in batting, seventh in on-base percentage, 13th in scoring and 20th in hits.
