HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – The Wofford women's golf team hosted its annual Low Country Intercollegiate, tying for seventh in the event with a score of 937 at the Moss Creek Golf Club, a par-72, 6,009-yard course. Over the three-day event, a pair of Terriers led the way with top-11 results as
Bella Kent placed 10
th, and
Maggie Jackson tied for 11
th.
Wofford opened with a 310 on day one before carding 315 in the second round. A final round 312 solidified Wofford's score of 937 at 73-over par, tying with SoCon foe UNCG for seventh in the 16-team field.
The event was won by ETSU with its 902 score, 38-over par. The Buccaneers finished five strokes ahead of second-place Richmond.
Bella Kent led the way for Wofford with a 13-over 229, placing in 10
th for her third-career top 10. The freshman shot 75 and 79 over the first two rounds before carding another 75 in round three to move up 10 spots on the leaderboard, surging into the top 10. Kent tallied six birdies in the event, three less than the event's high of nine.
Richmond's Hannah Lydic earned low medalist honors, preventing an ETSU sweep by a single stroke. Lydic finished with a 221, 5-over par, to win the 90-player event. She bested ETSU's Brianna Castaldi and Samford's Gabi Nicastro, both of whom tied for second with their 6-over, 222 scores.
Maggie Jackson fell just short of joining Kent in the top 10, carding 230 at 14-over to tie for 11
th. Jackson posted round of 78-75-77 with that final round 77 helping her advance three spots on the leaderboard into her final spot of 11
th.
Lilli Horn earned a top 20 with a 16
th-place tie, carding 231 at 15-over. Horn posted a 76 in round one before an 80 in the second, but her 75 in the last round allowed her to soar up the leaderboard, advancing 11 spots into the top 20, the fifth of her career.
Regina Parra (81-81-88) carded 250 in a tie for 71
st, and
Lindsey Hollis (86-82-85) rounds out the Wofford lineup in a tie for 78
th with a 253.
A pair of Terrier participated as individuals, with
Sofia Pedrero placing in a tie for 59
th with a 246 score. Despite rounds of 85 and 82 to open, she finished with an improved mark of 79 in the last round.
Taylor Burch (81-84-83) carded 248 to tie for 68
th, rounding out the Terrier finishes.
Wofford returns to action at the beginning of April with one more event before the SoCon Championship. The Terriers will participate in App State's Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate, a two-day event on April 1 and 2, in Morganton, North Carolina. After that final tune-up, Wofford is off to the SoCon Championships to finish up the 2023-24 season.
