Zac Cowan Garners SoCon Pitcher of the Week Honors

Sophomore righty tossed all seven innings in win against ETSU Friday

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference announced today its selections for baseball player and pitcher of the week for action from May 6-12 with Wofford's Zac Cowan receiving the SoCon Pitcher of the Week nod. The selections are made by the league office.

Cowan is earning the honor for the second time this season after previously claiming it on April 22. He is the first Terrier to receive the recognition twice in the same season since Josh Vitus did so in the 2022 campaign. This is the third overall SoCon honor for Cowan on the year as he also claimed SoCon Pitcher of the Month for March.

"We couldn't be prouder of Zac for earning this honor again," said head coach J.J. Edwards. "It's always exciting when one of our guys gets rewarded for their hard work. This award is certainly well-deserved."

The sophomore right-hander tossed all 7.0 innings of Wofford's 11-1 run-rule victory over ETSU on Friday, May 10. It was the third time this season that Cowan has gone the distance in a run-rule Terrier triumph. Cowan allowed just one run on only three hits. He did not walk a batter and notched six strikeouts.

A native of Blythewood, S.C., Cowan retired the first seven batters he faced before surrendering his first hit in third inning. Though that run scored, it would be all he allowed the Buccaneers to get. He allowed a baserunner in just two innings, and no one advanced to second or further after that third inning. His other five frames were all 1-2-3 innings.

The performance lowered Cowan's season ERA to 2.93, second in the conference. He has lifted his strikeout total to 95, best in the league and 20th in the nation. He needs just five more punchouts to become the 10th Terrier ever with 100 or more strikeouts in a season, and he would be the first to do so since 2021.

After taking two-of-three from ETSU at home this past weekend, the Terriers are 33-16 on the season and 10-7 in Southern Conference action. Wofford will hit the road this weekend for its final three regular season contests at Samford. First pitch for game one against the Bulldogs is set for 5:00 p.m. ET on Thursday, May 16.
