Coach Edwards Announces Baseball Staff Updates

Michael Picollo joins the Terriers as part of four total changes

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford College head baseball coach J.J. Edwards has announced changes to his coaching staff for the 2025 season. Michael Picollo will join the Terriers as the director of player development alongside three other assistant coaches in Pat Brown, Hudson Byorick and Frederic Reynolds being elevated into new roles.

Michael Picollo comes to Spartanburg after recently graduating from St. Joseph's, where he was a pitcher for three seasons. Picollo began his playing career at UNC Wilmington, appearing in three games with the Seahawks from 2019-21. After transferring to St. Joe's, the right-hander made 31 appearances with eight starts. Over 52.2 innings on the bump, he struck out 34 batters. Picollo's first two seasons with the Hawks were under the direction of current Terrier pitching coach Pat Brown. In joining the Terrier staff, Picollo is making his initial foray into the coaching ranks. He has previously interned at Tread Athletics in the summer of 2023. Picollo graduated from UNC Wilmington in 2012 with a bachelor's degree in business administration, and he added an MBA in business administration and management from St. Joseph's University in 2024. He is the son of J.J. Picollo, the current general manager of the Kansas City Royals.

Pat Brown remains the pitching coach for the Terriers as he becomes the program's new associate head coach under Edwards. Brown is entering his second season with Wofford after aiding in the Terrier pitching staff leading the Southern Conference in strikeouts with 497 during his initial campaign in 2024. Brown's staff was second in the league with a 5.79 ERA. Brown coached a pair of pitchers to All-SoCon recognition and led two more to all-freshman team honors.

Hudson Byorick enters his third season with the Terriers and remains the hitting coach while adding on recruiting coordinator responsibilities. In 2024, Byorick's offense ranked near the top of the country in many categories, notably topping the nation with a program-record 33 triples. Wofford also ranked second nationally in batting average (.334), runs (617), runs per game (10.0) and sacrifice flies (41) while sitting third in on-base percentage (.438), fourth in sacrifice bunts (55) and fifth in hits (716). Three Terriers ranked in the top 10 of the conference in batting average, and 2024 draftee Marshall Toole set program records with 43 steals and 10 triples, ranking second nationally in both marks.

Frederic Reynolds is entering his second season in Spartanburg and has been elevated to an assistant coach after serving as the director of player development last season. In his first year on staff, Reynolds aided in the Terriers claiming the 2024 SoCon Tournament championship with a 42-20 record overall and 12-8 SoCon mark. The 42 wins tied the program record and marked a third-straight 40-win campaign. Wofford was selected to the Chapel Hill Regional as the No. 3 seed and secured its first-ever NCAA Tournament win with a 5-2 triumph over LIU.

The quartet of coaches will round out Edwards' staff for the defending SoCon champions as they near fall ball and preparations for the upcoming 2025 campaign.
