GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Wofford College men's and women's cross country teams competed on Saturday morning at the Furman Invitational held on the Furman University Golf Course. The women were sixth and the men were eighth overall.
In the women's 6K race,
Mary Claire Ridgeway was the first Terrier to finish in 23:25.8 for 40
th place.
Franny Tocco (24:13.4),
Becca Hinds (24:17.5),
Kimber Keene (25:00.7), and
Carolyne Shealy (25:11.5) also scored points for the Terriers.
Ava Fowler (25:20.4),
Chloe Gilbert (26:04.4),
Kristen Hallman (26:31.4), and
Emma O'Connell (28:26.5) also finished for Wofford.
The men's 6K competition followed and
Liam Jones was the top Terrier finisher at 19:56.0 for 52
nd place.
Will Berger was next for Wofford in 20:33.9, followed by
Turner Knox (21:01.7),
Andrew York (21:01.7), and
James Moon (22:01.4) to score for Wofford.
Ethan Hearn (22:27.2) also finished the race.
The women's race was won by Furman with 24 points, followed by South Carolina, Charleston Southern, UNC Asheville, Western Carolina, and Wofford. The men's race was also won by Furman with 19 points, with Charleston Southern (57) and UNC Asheville (93) next in the standings.
The meet gave the Terriers a preview of the course that will host the 2024 Southern Conference Championship on November 2.
Both the men's and women's teams will be back in action on Friday, October 4, at the Georgia Tech Invitational.
