SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference named its weekly women's basketball player of the week selection today with Wofford's Queen Ikhiuwu earning her first-career honor. The selection is made by the league office.
 
Ikhiuwu's honor is the first of the season for the team and the first of her career. It is the first selection for the program since Evangelia Paulk won it on February 25 last season.
 
"I'm really happy and proud of Queen being recognized as the Southern Conference Player of the Week," said head coach Jimmy Garrity. "She performed and competed at a really high level against Georgia State and App State. She has worked extremely hard during the offseason, and I could not be happier for her to experience this success."
 
The junior from Madrid, Spain, opened the week with a career-high 18 points and 10 rebounds against Georgia State for the first double-double of her career. Ikhiuwu followed that up with 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting and six rebounds at App State. She added three blocks against the Mountaineers – the most of her career. For the week, Ikhiuwu averaged 17 points and eight rebounds per game, which was fifth and third in the conference, respectively.
 
Ikhiuwu is shooting 68.2 percent from the field this season, ranking her 15^th in the nation and first in the conference. Her mark of 15.5 points per game is third in the SoCon, and her 7.5 rebounds a night is second.
 
The Terriers suffered two setbacks last week but will look to get back on track with a road trip to Charlotte on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. The team will follow that up with a short trip up the mountains to take on UNC Asheville on Tuesday, November 25.
