Football Opens Spring Practice

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford College football team returned to the field on Thursday afternoon to open spring practice. It was the first of fifteen scheduled practices for the Terriers.

On the first day, the Terriers worked out in helmets on the lower practice fields for ninety minutes. The practice focused primarily on implementing the fundamentals on both sides of the ball, along with special teams drills.

"I am ready to be outside on the grass," said head coach Shawn Watson. "The college football business has become a very volatile business from the time the season ends until this moment for spring practice. We are excited to be out here. We've got a lot of new faces out here that we are anxious to see and work with. We have some new coaches as well who are ready to be out here. Today is going to focus on transitioning. With new people, both coaches and players, it's going to be here's your drill area, here's our base offense, based defense, with a real simple install."

Wofford is expected to return thirteen starters – five on offense, eight on defense, and one specialist. Among those returners are defensive back Eli Campbell (All-SoCon second team) and linebacker Wyatt Ward (SoCon All-Freshman Team),

The team welcomes a total of 14 newcomers who are participating in practice, including eight transfers and six freshmen who enrolled for the spring semester.

The Terriers will return to the field on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. to complete the first week of practice.
