Jackie Carman Recognized as SoCon Player of the Week

Senior guard led Wofford to two victories and netted a career-high 26 points

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Jackie Carman has been named the Southern Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week presented by GEICO for games played Dec. 7-13. Carman led the Terriers in scoring in both contests on the week, lifting Wofford to back-to-back victories for the first time on the season. The award is selected by the league office.

This is Carman's second career player of the week nod, previously earning it on Nov. 27, 2018. She is Wofford's first player of the week since Da'Ja Green on Feb. 26, 2019. The honor is also Wofford's second weekly award of the season, with Alexis Tomlin previously earning a SoCon Student-Athlete of the Week selection on Dec. 1.

"I'm really happy for Jackie to be recognized as the player of the week," said head coach Jimmy Garrity. "She's been shooting the ball extremely well and with a lot of confidence. She had a great week of practice, which led to her being prepared and ready for games on both ends of the floor."

The senior guard led the Terriers in scoring in both contests on the week with two double-digits performances. First, Carman shot 70.0 percent from the field to net 18 points against Brevard on Wednesday, Dec. 8, just missing her then season-high of 19 to tie for the scoring lead with freshman Sydnee Richetto. She also dished a career-high four assists to tie for the team lead, lifting the Terriers to a 101-37 drubbing of the Tornados. A few days later on Sunday, Dec. 12, the Twinsburg, Ohio native stepped up her game even more by leading the squad for a fourth-straight game with a career-high 26 points to help Wofford to a 78-65 triumph at Appalachian State. She became the first Terrier to total 20 or more points in a game this season as Wofford earned its first road victory of the campaign and snapped a 16-game losing skid against the Mountaineers, with the Terriers' last victory being Feb. 12, 2007.

On the week, Carman led the conference in scoring (22.0 PPG) and three-point percentage (.778). She was third in made threes (3.5 triples per game), fourth in field goal percentage (.682) and fifth in free throw percentage (.700). Overall on the season, Carman is third in the SoCon with 2.0 triples per game and ninth with 11.9 PPG, which is also good for the team lead.

Next, Carman will lead the Terriers to Clemson, S.C. for a matchup with the Clemson Tigers in Littlejohn Coliseum on Friday, Dec. 17. Wofford will then return home to Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium on Monday, Dec. 20 for a tilt against the Northern Kentucky Norse.
