Outdoor Track and Field Competes At High Point

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The Wofford College men's and women's track and field teams spent Thursday and Friday at the Vertklasse Meeting hosted by High Point University. The teams combined to set four school records and had several event victories.
 
On Thursday in the field events, Jenna Reid took first place in the women's javelin with a school-record distance of 42.70 meters. Megan Dunn was second in the event at 39.40 meters. Paul Szuba was eighth in the men's javelin at 45.56 meters. Netanya Linares was second in her flight of the high jump at 1.50 meters. T.J. Maxey was sixth in the pole vault at 4.06 meters, with Sebastian LaTorre seventh at 3.91 meters.
 
In Thursday's running events, Josh Hendry was fifth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at 10:02.22. Alexus Atkins ran the 5,000 meters in 18:09.23 to take fourth place. In the men's 5,000 meters, Carson Archie was 12th in 15:45.57 and Beck Classey was 13th in 15:50.09.
 
During Friday's field events, Georgia McDevitt won the long jump with a distance of 6.04 meters to set a new school record. Madeline McNinch was fourth in the event at 5.68 meters, which was also better than the previous school record of 5.57 meters. Chandler Robinson added a ninth-place finish in the triple jump at 10.83 meters. Tanner Henry was second in the men's high jump at 1.94 meters. Netanya Linares capped of the field events with a school record height of 3.40 meters in the pole vault.
 
For the Terriers on Friday in the running events, the women's 4x100 relay team started the day with a first place finish and a school record of 46.26. The men were also first in the 4x100 with a time of 42.53. In the women's 100-meter hurdles, Destiny Shippy was first in 13.98, while Netanya Linares was third and Kerrington Johnson fourth. Johnson added a sixth place finish in the 400-meter hurdles. Isaiah Ellis was fourth in the men's 110 hurdles at 14.57 and third in the 400-meter hurdles at 53.24. Jasmine Jefferson took fourth place in the 400 meters at 57.37 and for the men Conor Murphy was fourth and Sam Larkin fifth. In the 100 meters, Georgia McDevitt was fourth at 12.27, with Rylee Jorgensen fifth at 12.33 in the field of 45 runners. Sam Kamara was ninth in the men's 100 meters. To close out the day, both the women's and men's 4x400 relay were third out of ten teams.
 
Division I schools competing in the meet included Appalachian State, Charlotte, The Citadel, Davidson, East Tennessee State, Elon, Florida Atlantic, Gardner-Webb, High Point, Liberty, NC A&T, North Carolina Central, Ohio, Radford, UNC Greensboro, Western Carolina, Winthrop, and Wofford.
 
The team will be back in action at Western Carolina on April 16 and 17.
