Men's Tennis Takes Down North Greenville

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford men's tennis team defeated North Greenville, 5-2, on Tuesday afternoon at Reeves Tennis Center.

The win improves the Terriers to 8-3 on the season and moves the team to 7-0 at home. Wofford's eight wins this season are the most in the Southern Conference.

"To say that we needed today's match is an understatement," coach Rod Ray said. "We're off to a good start this year because we have some excellent tennis players who work extremely hard. I am looking forward to preparing for our next match."

Once again, the Terriers raced out to a great start, winning the doubles point. The no. 1 doubles team of Haris Poric and Julian Chousa took their doubles match, 6-3. Moments later, the no. 3 doubles team of Andrew Graham and Patrick Longest took their match, 6-3, to give the Terriers the early advantage. Lucas Cerbelli and Jack Thomas were leading their match, 5-4, when Wofford clinched the point.

The team of Chousa and Poric continued an impressive run this season, as the duo is now 7-1 on the season, playing all of their matches in the no. 1 doubles position.

In singles action, Parks Schoen stretched the team's lead to 2-0 with his 6-1, 6-1 victory over North Greenville's Josh Gomez. Freshman Lucas Cerbelli also took care of his opponent, winning 6-0, 6-2, to improve his singles record to a team best 8-2. Cerbelli's win also put the Terriers within one point of clinching the match.

With Julian Chousa's 6-2, 6-3 win in the no. 5 spot, the Terriers ensured themselves another home win.

However, the Crusaders refused to quit, as they took two of the final three matches to keep from being shutout in the match.

Sophomore Kyle Barr improved his singles record to 6-4 with a 6-2, 6-0 win in the no. 6 position.

Up next, the Terriers will remain home to host Appalachian State this Saturday, Feb. 25 at 2 p.m.
