Indoor Track and Field Opens Season At VMI Team Challenge

LEXINGTON, Va. – The Wofford College men's and women's indoor track and field teams began the season on Saturday at the VMI Team Challenge held at the Corps Physical Training Facility. The Terriers won four individual events, along with the men's 4x400 relay.
 
Top finishers in finals included Isaiah Ellis who took first place in the men's 60-meter hurdles in 8.25. In the 60-meter hurdle finals, Destiny Shippy was first at 8.68 and Kerrington Johnson was second at 8.72, with Megan Dunn eighth at 9.09. Madeline McNinch won the 200 meters in 24.99, while Megan Dunn, Destiny Shippy and Rylee Jorgensen also were in the top eight. Kerrington Johnson was sixth in the women's 60 meters at 7.85. In the 400 meters, Georgia McDevitt was third in 58.75 and Dahlia Cutler was fourth at 59.07. Alexus Atkins took sixth place in the women's mile
 
Sam Kamara was tenth in the men's 200 meters at 23.18. In the men's 400 meters, Elijah Bull was third at 49.96, while Conor Murphy was sixth and Sam Larkin took seventh place. Ford McCoy was sixth in the 800 meters at 1:58.87, while Theron Bradford was ninth. Josh Hendry added a seventh-place finish in the 3,000 meters at 8:56.15.
 
The men's 4x400 relay team of Sam Larkin, Conor Murphy, Isaiah Ellis and Elijah Bull took first place in 3:24.69. In the women's 4x400 relay, the team of Rylee Jorgensen, Dahlia Cutler, Madeline McNinch and Georgia McDevitt was third in 4:01.16.
 
In the field events, Tanner Henry was first in the high jump at 2.00 meters. Christopher Sheppard took seventh place in the long jump at 6.62 meters. Kelly Hogan was ninth in the shot put and weight throw, while Jenna Reid was eighth in the weight throw. In the women's long jump, Madeline McNinch was second at 5.83 meters and Georgia McDevitt was fourth. Netanya Linares was fifth in the pole vault at 3.20 meters. T.J. Maxey was second in the men's pole vault at 4.10 meters.
 
The meet featured eleven schools, including VMI, East Tennessee State and Western Carolina from the Southern Conference.
           
Up next, the teams will be in action on January 29-30 at the VMI Winter Relays. After the Darius Dixon Memorial at Liberty on February 12-13, the team will compete in the Southern Conference Championships on February 27 and 28 in Lexington.
