Wofford Concludes Southern Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships

LEXINGTON, Va. – The 2021 Southern Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships concluded on Sunday at VMI's Corps Physical Training Facility, with Wofford College winning two individual championships. The women were second overall with 131 points, while the men were fifth with 55 points.

The 131 points scored by the women were the most in school history, while the second-place finish the best as well. Wofford also was runner-up in the 2019 SoCon Outdoor Championships. The men's 55 points were the third-highest total in school history and the fifth-place finish was also tied for the best ever.

Southern Conference titles were won by Megan Dunn (pentathlon) and Kerrington Johnson (60-meter hurdles). The Terriers have now won nine individual titles in the last three indoor seasons. Netanya Linares earned the women's Most Outstanding Athlete award, the first time a Terrier has ever won that honor.

The fifteen All-Southern Conference honors earned were the most in school history: Megan Dunn (pentathlon), Tanner Henry (heptathlon), Destiny Shippy (60m hurdles), Kerrington Johnson (60m hurdles), Netanya Linares (pole vault and pentathon), Madeline McNinch (long jump, 60 meters and 200 meters), Jasmine Jefferson (400 meters), Conor Murphy (400 meters), Georgia McDevitt (200 meters and long jump), Tanner Henry (high jump), men's 4x400 relay team.

Two school records were set during the championship. Terriers also earned a total of 12 All-Freshman Team honors during the weekend.

"I am very proud of both programs," said head coach Johnny Bomar. "We asked a lot of them and they really stepped up. They competed with heart and determination. Netanya had an amazing performance to earn Most Outstanding Athlete. We put her in a ton of events and she did an awesome job, always with a smile on her face. While overall on the women's side we came up a few points short of a title, we will take it. We had twelve compete compared to Samford's 21 and we needed a lot to go right. I am so proud of this group."
