Bethay was a defensive lineman for the Wofford football team and threw the shot and discus for the track and field team. He was the first Terriers to earn All-Southern Conference honors in two sports. On the football field, he earned third team AP All-American in 2005 along with All-America honors from the American Football Coaches Association, Sports Network and Football Gazette. A member of the 2003 SoCon Championship team, he was named All-Southern Conference second team in 2003 and first team in 2005. As a senior in 2005, he was named SoCon Defensive Player of the Year by the Coaches. He is currently fifth in school history in sacks with 16.5 and fourth in school history in tackles for loss with 47.5. In track and field, he was the 2003 and 2005 Southern Conference Champion in the indoor shot put. At the 2006 SoCon Outdoor Track and Field Championship, he was All-Conference in shot and discus to earn SoCon Outdoor Field Performer of the Year honors. A native of Milton, Wisc., Bethay also excelled in the classroom while at Wofford. He earned CoSIDA Academic All-America honors in 2005 and CoSIDA Academic All-District honors in 2003, 2004, 2005.
