Hall of Fame
Jim Brakefield was the head coach of just four Terrier football teams (1967-70) but two of them were among the best in the school’s history. In 1969, he introduced the wishbone offense to Wofford and the results were spectacular. After losing their first two games that season, the Terriers won the final nine to launch a winning streak that reached 20 by the end of the 1970 season. During the winning streak, Brakefield’s powerful team scored an amazing average of 39 points per game. Wofford participated in the NAIA national playoffs in 1970, losing the championship game to Texas A&I. Brakefield served Wofford and Conley Snidow as an assistant for 14 years. He also coached the baseball team for 14 seasons, experiencing only two losing campaigns. Brakefield left Wofford following the 1970 season to become head coach at Appalachian State.
